Light in Haiti
After many hours it finally came, Cloudy and dark the skies filled with rain. With body limp, my mind in a fog, Not really sure why I came to Haiti.
Morning came early, the sky shown blue. Some things are different but I had no clue What the future was to be, Surrounded by those still strangers to me.
Work began in earnest, slow but sure. Some became ill but we all endured. Large at heart, strengthened by God, We all came together, common in our resolve.
Strangers became friends as the days went by. It’s hard not to be close working side by side. Sweat, play and laughter we all shared, And we often spoke to our father in prayer.
And he spoke back do not doubt; That is evident by what came about. But He also showed me something, Something I had not seen.
Life is not closed to myself. It must be more to have any depth. I will live for others; not just for me. By so doing my life will be complete.
Now the answer is as clear as this beautiful sky. Why did I come? I now know why! Thank you so much; the kinship is strong. I will never forget I saw the light in Haiti.
