October 2004 Trip

Cardiovascular Center in Fonds Parisiens

Fonds Parisiens is a Haitian border town located on the southern border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  A small clinic, Clinique Baptiste Chretienne,  was created in the town by a group of Baptist missionary in the 1970s.  Currently, the clinic has two medical doctors, one dentist and four nurses.  PHH is currently working together with the staff at Clinique Baptiste Chretienne to expand it into a referring cardiovascular center for all of Haiti.

Cardiac care and medical relief mission in Jimani, Fonds Parisiens, and other villages

In May of 2004, the Dominican border town of Jimani and the Haitian border towns of Fonts Verrettes and Mapou were affected by severe rain and flood. Jimani is a small Dominican Republic town of 10,000 inhabitants bordering Haiti. Many Haitians have fled their homeland in search of a better life and have settled illegally in border towns such as Jimani. It is estimated that 60-75% of the people who live in Jimani are Haitians or of Haitian descents.  Due to the recent devastating flood, many have lost all of their possessions and have had to start their lives all over again.  Some have been forced to live in refugee camps.   Our group provided primary care as well as cardiac care to these people in that area. We saw average of 100 patients a day. To see pictures from October 2004 trip
